Anna’s Story
“Growing up, my parents always taught that when you help people, you help a community. I got to see it firsthand when my mom started a nonprofit herself when I was in middle school. This worldview inspired me to go into nonprofit work myself.
Working in nonprofit education and education policy, I saw so many people leave – not because they wanted to, but because they couldn’t afford it. Burnout, low wages, poor benefits, and big hearts aren’t enough to make ends meet. I’ve seen how by investing in the people behind the projects, we can strengthen our communities.
In 2025, I found myself in an unexpected but fortunate spot. I was surprised to get a sizable inheritance that was more than my family and I needed.
I created the Otigo Foundation with a simple idea: Let’s support the people behind the nonprofit sector.
That’s how I got here.
We're starting with a proof of concept: Multi-year grants to show that investing directly in staff is not only impactful, but one of the most effective ways to strengthen nonprofits and the programs they're already running.
I live in Brooklyn, New York with my husband, my son, and my dog Gordo.”
